Overview

The AA School has grown up alongside, and to a very great degree helped shape, modern architectural education and the profession.

The AA offer a one-year Foundation Course, a five-year ARB/RIBA recognised course in Architecture, and 11 postgraduate research programmes covering a range of design agendas. The Visiting School offers 100+ short courses across five continents.

Nearly 85% of the AA School's 750 full-time students, and a similar percentage of tutors, come to the AA from abroad. Located in the heart of London, the schools facilities include studio spaces, workshops, digital prototyping labs, library, archives, access to our famous Public Programme, plus much more.

Students are eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries regardless of age, nationality or background. Funding is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional promise and financial need.

Services for International Students

The AA has a greater proportion of international students than other architecture schools, with students and staff from more than 60 countries worldwide. There are many visiting critics, lecturers and other participants from around the world each year.

Ranking

The School is internationally recognised as one of the oldest, most competitive and most prestigious architectural institutions in the world. Although no formal rankings for architecture schools in Europe exist, the AA was placed amongst the top 50 schools in Europe by the Italian architecture magazine Domus and in the top 10 worldwide by design magazine Jebiga.

Accommodation

The AA does not have its own accommodation, but does help students with an accommodation service from the beginning of September. An AA student is available during this time to advise about prices and location, whilst a wide variety of accommodation is normally advertised in the Accommodation Office.

The Hooke Park site, located in a forest in Dorset, is used for sustainability and woodwork study and since 2010 a small group of students have been able to live and study there.

Location

The AA’s premises are in Bedford Square, a very smart area of central London famous for its barristers’ chambers. It has since acquired additional London premises in nearby John Street and a 350-acre site at Hooke Park in Dorset in south west England. The school has also studio place close by to the main campus on Bedford Square.
