Overview
Greater Brighton Metropolitan College is a further education college lovated around the seaside city of Brighton, about 50km south of London. Originally City College, Brighton & Hove, it offers a large number of vocational courses as well as A-Levels and higher education degrees with the University of Brighton. There are currently about 2,000 full-time students, with many more studying part-time. It is particularly popular for students wishing to study visual arts, such as fine art or photography at university in the UK.
Services for International Students
On the first day, students take part in an induction programme to the college, with an airport pickup service also available. The International Student Officer offers advice on welfare, visas and academic study. The International team also organises a number of social events for international students, such as trips in the UK and Europe, afternoon outings to local cultural and natural attractions and social evening activities.
Accommodation
Students can live in homestay accommodation with a local family in or around Brighton, and can choose a single or shared room while gaining greater immersion in English language and culture. For students over 18, self-catered accommodation in a homestay is possible, whilst all students can live in half-board catered houses.
Location
Brighton is a famous city for counterculture and social life, featuring many clubs, live music venues, shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and museums. Brighton and Hove are lively and safe, with better than average weather, award-winning beaches and have the South Downs national park nearby. Known as ‘London by the Sea’, it is about 50km south of the capital. City College has two campuses: the Pelham Campus in the centre of of Brighton and connected by a free shuttle bus, City College East is further outside the city, near Brighton Marina.
